Mobile Septage Treatment Unit

Mobile septage Treatment Unit (MTU) is an onsite septage treatment technology developed by Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute) and is approved by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Government of India. It is a treatment system installed on the platform of a truck, which can treat the septage collected from septic tanks. Only two agencies i) Bhouma Envirotech Private Limited and ii) Kam avida Enviro Engineers Private Limited are licensed by WASH Institute.


Treatment process

  • MTU system is mounted on a small or medium truck to treat the contents of septic tank.
  • The system works based on solid-liquid separation. Liquid portion is treated on the spot and thickened sludge is transported for secondary treatment.
  • The solids can be either treated with STP sludge or it can co-composted with municipal solid waste in the solid waste processing facility.
  • The capacity of MTU ranges from 3000 to 6000 litres per hour.
